Yone’s offline summer activities

7 07 2018

If it were up to Yone, he’d be stuck to his computer 24/7 playing madmax, fortnite and gta online with friends and cousins. Unfortunately for him it’s up to us and not him and we came up with a new activity for the month of July.

Asides from his band gigs this month, which are obligatory, he’s going to a one week music camp for the 3rd time in a row. Maybe his last year as there is an age limit of 14.

His new activity is timple.

The timple is a Canary instrument which looks like a ukelele and is a classic at any folk dance or folk parade. Folk music and traditional Canary clothing are very rooted here and there are lots of traditional feasts throughout the year. The highlight is the feast week of Corpus Christi in La Orotava. The four of us had a great time this year during the Grand Parade, we joined our former La Orotava neighbour and his troupe of professional musicians. During the parade we discovered that we, as a family, had lots of instrumemts, but they were all percussive, and that at least one of us should learn a plucked string imstrument, a guitar or a timple… This person was obviously Yone.

He had his first class last week. His teacher was impressed.

We’re getting ready for next year’s parade!
